This year’s event marked the debut of our 26-foot whaleboat in action, and the advent of the Lobsterback Society sailors as well.  We are now a truly amphibious force, using the boat for transport and ‘strategic insertion’ of the marines.

Saturday dawned cold and rainy, but with characteristic enthusiasm the Lobsterbacks set out to defy the weather in the name of the King.  As expected, they met no resistance on landing at the battlefield.

On Sunday the weather cleared and the patriots were observed massing near the event site.  The sudden arrival of the whaleboat and landing of the marines sent them running to their earthworks.

The event provided great fun for sailors and marines alike, who made ample use of the whaleboat .  After bribing the Great Bridge Lock masters with His Majesty’s doughnuts, we encountered no resistance and transited six times, and even swore the crews of adjacent boats in the lock loyal to the King!

At the end of the action, our men retrieved their wounded and returned to the boat.  Our gallant lieutenant fell wounded in action, and was carried from the field by his men on a stretcher made from coats slung over muskets, much to the bemusement of our colleagues in the army and land-based naval forces.
